Schooling here is another story from the states, for a plethora of reasons. For one thing, there is no school zoning as we know it. Each year, parents can apply to any school in the county for admission for their child, and each school has differing admission standards. If the school itself doesn't offer you a place, the council is supposed to find one for you. I emphasize the "supposed" as I mailed off the applications for Dalton and Maggie about a week after I moved into the house - and according to the council, they provided us with spaces, but amazingly, we were never informed. I'll just say that nobody else I've spoken to has a particularly pleasant view of the council as it relates to schooling either. So, now, as previously mentioned, Maggie doesn't have a school.
At any rate, Dalton is now heading off to school everyday, mimicking my walk to the train station, only a little shorter, and a little later, wearing his school uniform, and carrying along his plimsolls. Quite a change for him, but he doesn't seem to really mind. He already knows one boy in his class, as he lives just down the street, which is making the transition somewhat easier.

I'd love to see a picture of Dalton in his uniform & whatever those plimsolls are! Also, could you take a picture of the school?
Thanks!
Elizabeth
Glad you said what a plimsoll is! Makes a cute mental picture too...Seeing that sweet boy walking down the street. Make me well up and get a little emotional!
Praying for you all. I know life is hard right now. J. you and Michelle are in my prayers daily. God is strengthening you and growing you...I am rooting for you both and cheering for you with every victory I see. Want the best for you all...and I miss you SOOOOOOO MUCH! Not you so much J. But then - if I did - that would be wierd.
We too are getting geared up for school. Benjamin will be homeschooling this year, and we're both looking forward to "alone time" with each other. We don't get much time to just spend alone time and sit and talk! Micah and Madison will be in preschool again this year at a local private school. And hopefully Lindsay will continue her morning nap routine to allow Benjamin and myself to time to do "school". Our curriculum is pretty simple. We're using a Hooked on Phonics set I've had for awhile. And we'll use scripture for writing practice and for reading also. We'll probably do mostly practical math problems from around the house. We also have some worksheets and flashcards and such, but we'll see which works better. I think he'll be more of a "hands-on" learner. For science, we are lucky enough to have a microscope (a weaker one so he can see the actual relationship between what he collected and what he sees) that we can use to observe things from the yard. Bugs, leaves, dirt, etc. My grandmother and aunt (a science teacher) gave it to Benjamin for his birthday last year, so that makes my life easier and cheaper! :-) And then there's the "practical domestic courses", such as laundry and dishes.... Do you think the state would mind those courses? :-)
Hey! Tell us more about your church when you get a chance. And the local restaurant scene....
Adorable!
Dalton! You are so handsome! The boys love your uniform!
