Eastbourne, Beachy Head

On Tuesday, after having shifted our piles of things as much as I thought I could before the movers got here today, the kids and I took a roadtrip with some of our neighbors to the coast. Eastbourne and Beachy Head to be exact. I didn't realize until then that we are only 1 1/2 hours from the coast by car. Apparently Eastbourne is the Senior Citizen sister of Brighton. I thought it looked quite nice though and definitely not as touristy. We only drove through the town though and carried on to Beachy Head and Birling Gap for a picnic and playtime on the beach. The beach was beautiful with the white chalky cliffs known as the Seven Sisters overlooking them. And the kids had a blast throwing rocks into the sea. Plus with the tide having been out, we found starfish that were caught in the puddles. I had told my neighbor that we had wanted to see the white cliffs of Dover but never made it. She said that the cliffs in Dover weren't looking as pretty as they once did because of the pollution from the ferries there now. So I am quite content with the white cliffs of Beachy Head instead. The only downfall that can dampen the beauty of it is that it is apparently one of the top suicide spots in Britain.

After we had had our fun on the beach, we moved on and had a cream tea at a little tea garden in Litlington (I believe) that is approximately 170 years old. The cream teas are something I will definitely miss when we get home. After that, we headed home and enjoyed the view of the Long Man on the way. The Long Man is a large figure carved into the side of a hill. No one really knows how or why he is there.

It was a lovely day that very easily could have been missed had we listened to the BBC weather reports. I am so glad we didn't because I thoroughly enjoyed my last outing with my neighbors that I will truly miss when we get home.
