A Cold and Snowy Week

After the snow of Sunday/Monday, the rest of the week was pretty quiet. Our local train station was closed due to the snow both Monday and Tuesday, so it was Wednesday before I went in to work, which, I must say, was a welcome reprieve. Of course, Monday saw us doing all the things that you would normally do in such weather - sledging, making snowmen and snow angels, and having snowball fights. Mich, of course, was busy taking pictures, and on Tuesday morning, when it was apparent that the snow wouldn't last, we traipsed down past Mercer's Lake on our search for pictures.

Wednesday and Thursday were fairly mundane, as things began to return to normal after the whitewash, although there were still lingering patches of snow and ice for several days. (Actually, the bottom bit of the snowman we built in our back garden is still there as I write.) Friday night it began to snow again, but this time it never really got going. We ended up with a light dusting on Saturday morning, but nothing worth bothering with. Mich went to a quiz night on Friday up at the school - one of their regular fundraisers. I don't know if I've mentioned quiz nights before, but they seem to be a British institution. There's a quiz night at just about every local pub.

Of course, all the weather comes with a cost, and everyone has been coughing, sneezing, and otherwise displaying cold-like symptoms. Regardless, the snow has been fun.

In other news, we're seriously concerned about our computer now. It has been overheating fairly quickly for the past month or so, and has gotten to the point where it doesn't like to exert itself overly much to do anything. Any program that requires significant processing power is likely to make it shut off, so we're trying to be very conservative in what we use it for. E-mail and internet seem to be fine (for now), but the rescue mission to ensure that we get all of our pictures and other files off the computer is ongoing. I had hoped that we would be able to use this as a spare upon our return, however, now it looks far more likely that it will be going into the bin.

And, of course, the news that everyone is asking about...we still don't know where we'll be going at the end of April. As time goes by, the likelihood of our final destination being Birmingham increases, but at this juncture, we, like you, are in the dark as to where we will actually end up. At some point in the near future, we need to arrange shipping and all that jazz, so I'm as anxious as anyone to find out, but the process seems to move much more slowly coming back than it did coming over. I'll keep everyone posted once I know more. Until then...
