A Random Collection of Thoughts

This week has been fairly quiet. For the most part we've just been settling into our regular routine, Dalton in school, Maggie at home school and ballet, me at work. Of course, Dalton dropped his little secret on Monday, but I was going to have to tell Michelle sooner or later. We also attended Dalton's school assembly on Friday, which is basically where the class gets up and tells everyone what they've been learning. Dalton had a large speaking part and did a good job.

I mentioned in my post last week that Dalton and I had gone for a walk. A few more details are in order. We went walking to Priory Farm, which, if you look at the map, is probably about a mile or so from the house. It took us about three hours to make the round trip, mainly because we ended up walking in a terribly roundabout route. Priory Farm has a "farm shop", where you can buy, amongst other things, various groceries, including fruits, vegetables, and other farm produce. Interestingly, when we were there, Dalton requested that we buy some quail eggs. We did, and then, much to my surprise, Dalton actually ended up eating most of them during the week. (Have I mentioned before that Dalton is a picky eater?) Today, Dalton wanted to go back to Priory Farm, mainly to get more quail eggs. We did actually find a slightly faster route today, but it was also quite scenic. Regrettably, I had left the camera at home, so no pictures.

Other developments during the week include the discovery that we can actually watch the MLB playoffs. While we do have a delay in the broadcast (believe it or not, I don't particularly want to get up at 2 am to watch baseball), and therefore, can't go to any websites that might give us the scores prior to when we watch the game, this is really quite a cool thing for me. Last year was the first year since 1995 that I haven't seen any of the playoffs whatsoever. Of course, it's fair to say that I've been fairly distant from American sport since we arrived. College football in particular is awfully difficult to track from a different time zone.

Maggie asked today how many days were left until Christmas and I was shocked to discover that it was less than 90 days. I suppose that means that we'll be visiting the markets soon to polish off our Christmas shopping. Every year we try to get the shopping done well before Christmas arrives, with varying success. Regardless, this year should be interesting as it will be our first UK Christmas, and I am looking forward to the mince pies (which are already in the stores), and the Christmas decorations. We may even head in for the lighting of the tree in Trafalgar Square. We also plan on going ice skating again. The weather has already started to cool off - today, the high was around 55F, and the heat has started to kick on in the mornings.

Signing off from London...

Are they honest to goodness quail eggs or is that just one of those 'Britishisms' for something else?

No Britishism - quail eggs. To be fair, they're pretty much the same as chicken eggs, just smaller.

Personally, I am disappointed. We had fresh Scottish duck eggs and even contemplated quail eggs only to hear " No yuck, I wouldn't eat that". I was catching up on your blogs and enjoying. I spent yesterday afternoon with my children out at mom and dads. Martha also was in town, so we had a mini get together, and had good time. Obviously, anytime family gets together stories are told and memories are invoked, which brings me to my point, which is we thoroughly enjoyed our time with you and children, even if they didn't want to try our duck eggs!

Speaking of Random thoughts, Your blog spot has mention of Frog and Toad. Anyway, when I was out at mom and dads they had the Chezk version which basically equates to saying Croak and Flop are comrades to which I laughed heartily.
