More walking

Where to start? The past week has been fairly quiet. Maggie came down with a nasty sounding cold and cough around Thursday, and she still has it today, so we ended up staying at home pretty much all weekend, although Dalton and I did go for another walk yesterday - this time in another direction, and found another 800 to 1,000 year-old church. Michelle went out for a walk and a visit to the pub today with some friends and had steak and Guinness pie and spotted dick and found another cute little church, although I don't know how old it is.

We had been getting rather exasperated with our camera that we got for Christmas because it kept acting up so we finally broke down and bought a new one - this one with even sharper images, a better zoom, and a few other extras that I think will actually make a difference. The extra zoom is pretty cool. That's our Christmas present for ourselves for this year. Michelle said we now have to go back everywhere we've been to take pictures again.

Like I said, the week has been pretty quiet. We've been putting the final touches on some planning for a few upcoming trips, which is another reason for getting the camera now, rather than actually waiting until Christmas, but you'll have to wait until we go to get the full details...

The days feel much shorter here now. The sun doesn't come up until after seven, which makes it feel as though you just haven't gotten nearly enough sleep when you pull yourself out of bed. Which reminds me - I'm not sure what to think about the upcoming months. On the one hand, there's Christmas - and we will have visitors shortly afterwards, on the other hand, this will be the first time that any of us haven't been home at Christmas. I'm not sure what the net effect will be on everyone. So, think of us in the coming months, as I think that this could possibly be some of the hardest months we've had since arriving. In return, we'll try to make sure that we keep everyone up to date on our holiday plans and celebrations - I am looking forward to the mince pies...although, they are actually already in the stores.

So what kind of camera did you get?

It's a Sony W170. Basically, same Cybershot style that we've been using (Mich demands that the camera have sepia), but this one has 5x optical zoom, 10x digital zoom, 10MP, and then a host of other little special features - smile detection is one of the ones we've played with so far. Pretty cool.
