This week turned out to have a much slower pace than I originally anticipated. After hitting Leeds Castle on Sunday, our guests hung about in town on Monday before renting a car on Tuesday and driving to Scotland. They returned on Saturday, and in between, it was just a regular sort of week. Some of the more interesting bits are discussed below.
Dalton's school offers clubs for the children after school. The clubs meet about once a week or so. This year his choices were between choir, drama, and the "Go Green" club. As might be imagined, Dalton chose the drama club - as did everyone else in his class, which prompted the school to state that his class wouldn't be able to participate in drama until the spring. Strangely, there are still plenty of spots in the "Go Green" club.
We also got the list of topics that Dalton will be covering in school this year. He's going to continue to learn French (much to my delight), and he's going to practice football (that's soccer to all you Americans) and rugby in PE. He's also going to cover the history of the EU and its geography. Otherwise, I imagine the syllabus isn't terribly different from what would be found in an American school.
Maggie has been feeling a little left out - seeing all the other children going to school in their uniform and still wanting to be in school with all the other kids. She asked if we could get her a uniform, so we got her a little dress and blouse this week. She wanted a yellow one, like the girls wear at Merstham Primary, but we couldn't find any, so we had to settle on grey. So she's been attending her Home Primary school in her uniform. She also takes her lunch up to the school when she walks up with Mich and Dalton in the mornings, before bringing it back home. Still, she has definitely been doing well in the home schooling.
Ryanair started to offer flights for a pound during the week. The problem is that you have to fly during the week and only in September and October. Mich and I discussed pulling the kids out of school for a day and just doing a day trip to somewhere - particularly Spain, since Dalton keeps being insistent that he wants to go there. We'll see.
Mich and I finally got a night to ourselves last night. We ended up just heading up to the Feathers, a little pub close to the rail station here, having dinner and a few drinks. I thought it was actually quite nice. We had sticky toffee pudding for dessert. I'd like to go back sometime - the pub actually used to be an inn - although I don't think you can stay there anymore.
And that's all the news for now.
