Around the World in a few Hours

One of the minor tragedies of being here is that Dalton and Maggie haven't had "proper" birthdays since we left. In 2007, Maggie and Dalton had a joint birthday party, since Dalton arrived only a few days before his birthday, and this year, while we've celebrated in little ways, it hasn't been quite the same. Still, this year, we promised Dalton that instead of a big party, we would all go to Legoland for his birthday. Regrettably, when his birthday rolled around, we were involved in ballet and play practices for the next several weekends, so we didn't make it to Legoland until this weekend.

We didn't tell the kids we were going until we had actually parked the car in the Legoland parking lot, so they were quite surprised and very excited. Legoland itself is really quite similar to many amusement parks, except that it really is designed with children in mind, so there's nothing that's overly fast or scary there. The other big difference is that there are little things made out of Legos all over the park, ranging from lions, tigers, elephants and zebras to dragons, dinosaurs, and trolls. This was probably the coolest bit for Mich and myself - they had a section of the park called Miniland, where they had recreated several of the places in London - the London Eye, Big Ben and the House of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Canary Wharf, etc. In addition, they had created mini sites from around the UK and Europe (and a few from the US) all from Legos. It was really quite impressive. Even Dalton said it was his favorite part, and he rode pretty much every ride in the park at least once. Thus, the title of this post.

The day itself turned out to be less than great weather for going to the park, which was really a shame because otherwise it was great fun. Even so, it was pretty cool. Pictures coming next.

When Jay was in first grade, I took him to Legoland in California. It was one of the best memories of our lives!!!
