Duran Duran

The summer season is officially upon us, and like many places, for London, that means numerous outside music concerts, with the grandaddy of them all - Glastonbury - (by the way, that's pronounced Glah-stun-bree) taking place last weekend. Michelle and I haven't availed ourselves of the opportunity to see any of the palooza-type fests, but we did take up the opportunity to see Duran Duran last night.

I have to admit that when I came over, seeing lots of bands in their hometown was not one of the things that I thought about as being a positive, but it has turned out to be a very pleasant addition to our experience. Michelle could probably gush about Duran Duran better than I can - and perhaps she will, who can say, but it was an excellent show. We were able to bring in the camera, and Michelle got several neat shots of the band, and our seats were quite good as well.

They played some of their new stuff, which - to be fair - I had listened to before and thought, "This just isn't for me." I'm going to have to go back and give it a re-listen, because some of it really sounded good last night. And then, after three songs, they hit "Hungry Like the Wolf," and the show never really looked back after that. LeBon's voice was amazing. I've seen them twice before, but last night was the best I've ever heard him sound.

They basically jammed out hit after hit after Hungry, covering a lot of the old material, like "The Reflex", "Wild Boys", "Save A Prayer", etc., although they didn't play just the album version on any of them, that I can recall - most of them were updated in some way or another. I'll come back later on and put some of Mich's pictures on here, but just wanted to say that we had a great time. On the way back, we bumped into a couple on the train who had had backstage passes, and had gotten to meet the boys, and so it was just kind of like an extension of the show, as we sat and talked to them about the band for the thirty minute or so train ride. Anyway, I'll come back with pictures later, and I will say, seeing them in their hometown was the best.
