Happy Thanksgiving to all and sundry! Unfortunately, my Thanksgiving was spent working and I'll even be working tomorrow as well, so not a huge celebration going on right now. Still, Michelle managed to go and get some turkey, and some other goodies, so we are having a mini-Thanksgiving meal tonight. It's just a bit different from Thanksgivings past. Actually, it comes to mind that we will probably be sitting to eat our supper at about the same time as my brethren across the ocean will be sitting for lunch, which is a bit bittersweet.
I did leave the office a bit early to go to Dalton's school assembly, where he and the rest of the year threes (that's 2nd grade) showed their French knowledge by counting to thirty, telling various colours (Dalton got to say 'orange', which is 'orange' - and his favourite colour), and having an example French conversation. They also talked about their visit to the local landfill and what they learned about recycling and rubbish. It was quite entertaining, all in all.
I also finished a book that was given to me by PwC earlier today on the way in on the train. The book is called The Heart of Success, and I have to say that it was one of the best books I have ever read - at least from a business perspective. It takes the conventional view on "success" and turns it on its head. It points out that the thing that we really long for is relationships. If we make a list of goals today, they are often "success" oriented, but at the moment when we think things are falling apart, we rarely wish we had been more successful - we wish that we had loved and lived better. It goes on from there. I don't want to steal the thunder, but if you see the book, give it a read.
