First, a hearty congratulations to my friend Robert on the birth of his firstborn. While I know he is experiencing the first of many less than restful nights, having a baby is a wonderful experience, and watching them grow is really a joy. So, congratulations, and best wishes to you. I’ll be giving you a call when I get back in town so we can catch up and I can see your beautiful girl.
The weekend was glorious, with not a drop of rain. Saturday morning we got up, had our breakfast, and then while Mich went shopping with Debbie, I took the kids to the park, where they ran and played, and Maggie drew pictures of the trees and flowers, and the playground. That afternoon, we went for a walk around the lake. There are tons of rabbits around – there’s one field in particular where if you come in quietly you can catch sight of about ten or so at one time. They’re fairly jumpy, though, so much movement or noise, and they run off. As you might imagine, it is difficult to see too many with two small children accompanying you. Still, it was a good walk, getting to walk around and enjoy the countryside.
Sunday, we opted to go into London, primarily to go to Kensington Gardens. We started out from Hyde Park, and headed across the park towards Kensington Gardens. We stopped and ate at a little picnic area right by the Serpentine, and then walked on by the Serpentine to the Peter Pan statue. We also went to the Princess of Wales “monument”, which is a giant circular waterfall like thing. Once we get the internet up at home, I’ll try to post some pictures, because it is really difficult to describe. It is open for people to dip their feet and hands in the water, and the cold water felt really good on our feet after the walk. We then walked to the Museum of Natural History, where we looked at the dinosaurs (again – for those of you keeping track, this was Dalton’s second visit, and my third), and we also looked at the giant sequoia tree. The tree was felled when it was 1,335 years old, and it was huge.
By this time, everyone was pretty worn out, so we headed back home. Of course, the walking wasn’t quite over, because it’s still about a mile from the station back to the house. All in all, a very good weekend, I think.
