Rain and Rail

I’m still trying to get into a routine. Unfortunately, my attempts have been hampered by various problems, including, to date, my failure to convince anyone at the phone companies to listen to me and give me a phone line. Thus, my only access to the internet is at work, which assists in explaining why the blog isn’t getting too many updates at the moment. I’d like to do some more work on it, add links, that sort of thing, but until I get a home internet connection, just will not be able to play with it much.

The rain which was largely absent in my first two weeks or so has finally arrived. While there still hasn’t been what I would consider a good rain, it has been drizzly on and off for the past several days, running from Monday on. As I’ve not yet gotten completely into the habit of carrying my umbrella with me whenever I go out, that’s resulted in getting wet a couple of times. Still, as I said, it’s been mostly drizzle, so it hasn’t been all that bad. The sun does peep out and tease everyone around midday, but it seems inevitably overcast by the time I head home.

I’m riding the rail daily now, and don’t get on the Tube except when needed, which is fine by me. The rail is much nicer than the Tube, and not anywhere near as crowded. To top it off, it takes me about as much time on the rail from Merstham to get into London Bridge as it did coming from South Kensington on the Tube – about 35 to 40 minutes or so.

Given the weather and the fact that I’m no longer staying in London, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I’ve not done much sightseeing. By the way, it should be noted that London here is considered to be pretty much everything within the M25 – a ring road around the city. The City is actually the roughly square mile or so of the old city boundaries, located across the river from where I work. I have wandered to Southwark Cathedral during my lunch breaks, which is right down the street, and has parts that are some 1,000 years old, but have not taken any pictures.

I think that’s all the news that’s fit to print, for the time being. Michelle and the kids arrive next Friday, and I am anxiously awaiting their arrival. A month is a long time to be a bachelor when you’re a married man.
